Friends of Fred Thompson reports contributions

The Fred Thompson campaign plans to report tomorrow that they have raised well over $3 Million dollars in the first 26 days since Friends of Fred Thompson Inc was created. This is a sizeable amount for an exploratory committee and is more than 10X greater than Giuliani’s first month (Nov. 15-Dec. 15: $258,660) and about 3X the amount McCain raised in his first month (Nov. 14-Dec. 14: $1,130,351).
With the campaign’s low burn rate, $3 million is more than enough to “test the waters” and to form a national campaign staff. Critics will argue that the amount raised is below expectations. But these are the same people that would have complained that if he raised more money than that, he should have officially declared. So either way, they will find something to criticize. But the more they focus on Thompson, the more it shows they know he is the one to beat.
