Senator Thompson is a statesman and has more foreign policy experience than any other candidate. He wants the federal government pared down to the size and scope that our Founding Fathers intended when they built the framework for our country. The health initiatives of Gov. Romney and Gov. Huckabee are suspect, in that they both smack of nanny-statism and larger government. In fact, Hillary Clinton admitted to taking ideas from Mitt Romney to formulate her own healthcare plan. Former Mayor Giuliani is, unfortunately, just as liberal on social issues as his Democratic opponents. Mike Huckabee also has the disadvantage of having supported comprehensive immigration, rather than the overwhelming request by the American people that existing laws be enforced. Senator Thompson's wisdom in regard to taking the abortion issue to the states is garnishing him support from right-to-life groups who understand the probable futility of the HLA. This philosophy is similar to that of Ronald Reagan who said if he couldn't get everything he wanted, he'd take what he could get and come back for the rest later. I think what Senator Thompson has shown is trust in the American people themselves to decide this issue properly - for life. Amazing, isn't it? A politician who trusts the people, and not the government, to do the right thing. So the question becomes who can you trust? Who has been the most consistent conservative?
