Iowa GOP Rep. Steve King endorses Fred Thompson
Dec 17th, 2007 by Ted Pibil
In a huge coup for Fred Thompson, Iowa GOP Rep. Steve King announced this morning that he is endorsing Fred Thompson for POTUS. Romney has been pressing hard for months for this endorsement - as shown by the large amount of staff that showed up for the press announcement expecting that their man would be endorsed. Rep. King brings a large grassroots organization that will further help Thompson’s efforts in Iowa!
Michelle Malkin has a great post covering the announcement including Rep. King’s complete statement:
As I mentioned, Rep. King has been one of the strongest proponents of strict immigration enforcement. Looks like Mitt Romney’s Meet The Press performance yesterday–go back and read his Clintonian answer on amnesty–didn’t help. Like I said yesterday, the endorsement promises to carry much more weight with grass-roots conservatives than the left-leaning Des Moines Register’s.
UPDATE: Read Fred Thompson’s post about the endorsement:
Congressman King’s leadership in support of the sanctity of life and his efforts in the fight against illegal immigration have made him one of Iowa’s great Republican leaders. He’s a tireless fighter for the 5th district of Iowa and I’m honored by his support. I look forward to working with Congressman King over the next three weeks and into 2008 in support of the traditional conservative values he and I share.
