Source of Thompson Rumors
Jan 5th, 2008 by Ted Pibil
Many of you may have heard the supposed news report that, on the eve of the Iowa caucus, that, if Fred Thompson did poorly, he would drop out of the race and endorse Senator John McCain. The Thompson team vehemently denied the report and other reports questioned the integrity of the report.
Now Robert Novak is reporting that the source of the rumor, in fact, came from the Mitt Romney campaign to cause strife between Thompson and McCain. This discovery points out two facts that we have known for a long time: 1) the Romney campaign is filled with some of the sleaziest operatives, and 2) that Politico is clearly anti-Thompson and has no journalistic integrity.

I wish I could say I am surprised, but this type of dirty trick really makes me angry more than anything else. I just cannot understand why it’s necessary to pull this kind of stunt if your candidate is the best person for the job.
This subversion is not just against the candidate.
When you deceive the American people to drop any further consideration of a candidate it is a direct crime against our country…this is treason.
